Posted by Sermarr

Many new stitches to add these pieces. Some mirrors and a gray brick. Lots of glistening India threads. Hooray for the thread store in Jaipur!

Almost Home

Posted by Sermarr

Today I decided to add stitches and objects to a previous painting. It was painted about Home, a sacred space. This piece envisions the numerous charming, puzzling and concerning things that make up a home. I will be reworking some other paintings to add dimensionality with my more recent techniques

A Walk Through Central Park

Posted by Sermarr

Went walking the other day all through the middle of Manhattan. After seeing the beautiful paintings of saints in the Renaissance section of the Metropolitan Museum, I went down through Central Park and on down through the Village to Soho. The park was beautiful and here are some gorgeous pictures to prove it. Walking down the avenues of Manhattan is one if my favorite pastimes. Total walked? According to my app that measures such things, 12.5 miles! An all time record since I got the app

Here is the beauty of the park on a spring day including the sand beach volleyball court.

Spring Cleaning For Studio

Posted by Sermarr

This is the second day of spring cleaning of the studio. I've been here almost a year and things need to be weeded out, neatened up and put back in their right place I have a great workman who is helping me lift stuff so I can not reinjure my shoulder. So everything is getting sorted and put in better order so I can make the work that is now teeming in my brain pounding to get out.

Long Island City Open Studio learnings

Posted by Sermarr

Thank you, Jane and all the people who helped me drag out and hang up a "show" in the front vacant space. It looked lovely.
I learned a lot having to hang it. I also learned that location, location, location is critical to having volumes of people show up. Some very loyal friends came and some people combing the outlying studios. Next year I will join one of the group shows and not open my studio.
I did get a chance to go to see some of the open studios and picked up some cards of people I want to call. Most people seem not to be "on the edge" in their art. I came home and saw my work with fresh eyes

Now is the beginning of the marketing season and I will catalog all the artists and galleries from the art shows and begin to do follow up

More New City Piece

Posted by Sermarr

I rushed back to the studio this afternoon after going to Chelsea today. Went gallery looking today. Saw the most marvelous artist, Vik Muniz, on the walk. Look him up for great view of creativity.
I couldn't wait to get back to put more density into this City Piece. Now it has more forms. And some small dabs of color. The difficulty will be assembling it in which order. And how much color But it is meant to be dense packed. And I may do charcoal portraits on some of the forms.
I know it is hard to tell what this is as it is so 3-D, but… it is still being assembled. Stay tuned!
