30 lbs of fabric! Yike! And wow!

Posted by Sermarr

After days of gathering provisions I have it all ready to pack. Lots of fabrics, some for backgrounds, some for flowers or other details. Serga helped me pack and weigh my treasures. And we did get it to fit,but Big Red suitcase was now 70 lbs! And the small carry on was also stuffed. Mostly with fabrics, but also with thread, vintage wallpaper rolls, special fabric glue, scissors large and small, duct tape ,red gesso, needles,a one pound box of nails and other essentials. No paint or brushes because I can buy them there. I am planning on painting on fabric so I can fold them up and bring them home. Instead of having to ship all these big 5'x3' framed things
So begins my journey of art residency. There is such a feeling of anticipation. I've gotten here now. One hour flight from JFK ,one hr shuttle ride to Johnson,vt. It is spectacularly green and full of rain/water here. And the houses are made of board. So unlike santa Fe that it seems like I've gone off to an exotic place. I'll take pictures of my room and studio tomorrow. I'm tired.

Shopping for flowers in NYC

Posted by Sermarr

Today after seeing the Warhol and other artists he influenced at the Met I went walking down to the fabric district. I went shopping at only one store so far,Mood's Designer Fabrics on 37th street in the fashion district. I stuck to my original purpose which was to search for flowers on fabric. The store was overwhelming. Here are some pictures of the store and one of the flowers ,front and back,I found

Not Me! Flowers being positioned

Posted by Sermarr

Today I got here late. I painted more colors into the shadows of the athlete. He now looks less separated from the flowers in color. And I'm working on positioning the flowers.

Not Me! Figure going into place

Posted by Sermarr

Today is the first time I've been able to get to the studio to really paint in a very long time. And I had laid out Not Me! But hadn't been able to paint it. Today I began to get all the parts in place. It is in oil on black gesso. And I have to say that having painted 169 faces did help me do this one! I wish I had also painted 338 hands! But he's in place and tomorrow I hope to get back and do more but I may not make it. But it feels good to have gotten this far
