169 Faces. Almost finished!!!!!

Posted by Sermarr

Well the days have been accomplished that I should almost be delivered of 169 faces. And what a great undertaking it has been... To study the contours on human expressions. None of these are portraits. And none are characatures
And I have learned a lot about structure and coloring of faces
And that is easy to see when you look at my first face, Adam, which I've kept unretouched.
So enjoy!

Color….Fun!

Posted by Sermarr

After so much detail work on the monograph and Not Me, I just wanted to do something fun and cheery. So I made this picture from some wonderfully colored pieces of felt. No name;no narrative. Just colorful fun

Not Me! Ready for small figure

Posted by Sermarr

After too much deliberation, I've decided to use the smaller figure because he looks diminished and enveloped in the natural swirl of the flowers. So I painted a black gesso background for the oil paint to adhere to. Here he is

Not Me! Sizing

Posted by Sermarr

I've gotten the flowers positioned the way that I think sets off the athlete's position and hints at his thoughts. And mine. Now how big to make him ? If he's so small he is dwarved by all the large flowers. So I've tried cutting out three sizes. Like the papa, mama and baby bears. Will be able to tell, hopefully, tomorrow.

169 Faces

Posted by Sermarr

Today I was the artist-in-residence at my gallery,Volo. I have been working on this piece at the gallery. It requires me to move across each face making minor corrections to each to better capture each face. Even having worked with it for a long time, I am forever surprised at how faces are so different from one another, and how each expression is so different. Just the smallest alteration in the angle of the lips or eyes and the face becomes hostile or resigned. So here they are so far

Not Me. Begins

Posted by Sermarr

Today I got a very late start. But I was excited about this picture that I saw of an old Olympian athlete. He was in the last games in Britain and now he is very old. It occurred to me that I always look at these very old, time-showing-on-their-bodies people. And I instantly say....not me! But indeed, even for Olympians who've been in the best physical shape of us all, time and gravity win in the end. So here is his picture in black and white. On rusted metal. Surrounded by fabric flowers. I love the combination of textures. I think I will paint him in oil.

169 Faces. Forever and ever

Posted by Sermarr

Today was more faces. This is taking a very long time but I feel like I know some of these faces like people. Here are a few details. I just keep going around and around making changes as I go trying to not make changes when the face looks "finished". But not a lot of them do yet.

Posted by Sermarr

I worked on this the last few days. I now have 168 faces and 167 names And I'm working on trying to get these to be more fully realized and more similar in coloring and size. I've worked on this piece for over a year on and off. So here are some of the details and the total picture so far
