Invincibility Vest

Posted by Sermarr

Today I made an Invincibility Vest for a friend who's fighting lung cancer. It's strung with magic cord for strength in the face of sickness. I hope it brings her help

Foggy Crystal

Posted by Sermarr

Foggy Crystal moved along today. It is a very appropriate companion piece to be making while doing a piece about my long dead and little known grandmothers. I feel so unable to see patterns and learn things from the daily, yearly rush of things that happen. Both close to me and far away in the world. And my foggy crystal gives me little insight even about the lives of my grandmothers. Humbling. And contenting in some strange way to know ill never know

How Much Of My Grandmother Is Still Here? Stitches

Posted by Sermarr

Today I'm in a determined mode because I want to get far enough on this piece and Foggy Crystal to be satisfied. I leave on vacation tomorrow. The Grandmother piece took an unexpected turn because I have begun to stitch their portraits. It's like an homage to them, neither of which I knew well. I have pictures of them when they're young that I'm working with. My red/blond grandmother bequeathed me her hair color. I remember being very small and watching with fascination when she'd unwind her hair and comb it at the end of the day. It was beautiful. My other grandmother died long before I was born and so I have only this one picture of her. It is very like being linked to them as I stitch and wonder what they were like.

Foggy Crystal

This piece seems to have its own abstract counterpart to the grandmother questions. How much can we see, even in our own generation? This piece talks about fuzzy patterns and the unknown that confronts us each day in the familiar known

How Much Of My Grandmother Is Still Here?

Posted by Sermarr

Today I worked in the faces of my grandmothers. Both were Scotch/Irish Very different faces. I've outlined in glass the parts that I recognize in myself: blond hair from my grandmother with the braids on her head, high forehead, eyes, nose and long neck from the other. Can't wait to see what shows up tomorrow. It's my last day in the studio before a vacation beginning on Monday

How Much Of My Grandmother Is Still Here?

I wonder how much of my grandmother is still here on this planet?

Crossroads. Finished

Posted by Sermarr

Today the last touches were added to Crossroads. I feel I'm truly at a crossroads in terms of my work. And beginning to display it to the world outside this studio. Lots of unbroken days of painting. This one has an unusual technique that I've used once before, but long ago. Can you tell what it is?

Target Child. Finished except for the child

Posted by Sermarr

Today the wind has been whistling over the skylights. I've been working the last few days on helping open a gallery and haven't had much energy or time to work on these pieces. Today I really wanted to finish as much as I could on Target Child. It is now finished until the child is put in place. Then we'll see how to finish it all

Crossroads

Posted by Sermarr

This is a new piece to talk about how my life is changing and how the future is unclear. Except for the propulsive force of the art I'm making now. My head and heart are constantly full of these images

Love at first sight. Touched up and finished

Posted by Sermarr

Love At First Sight needed some more buzz and envelopment of the attraction. Some lovely yellow helped blend them together
