Rompecabeza tied up

Posted by Sermarr

Rompecabeza has been tied up behind. All the cables, cords and wires cinched tight. Only the dreaming fetus is yet to be attached. This piece has so many of the opposing forces we all deal with at crossroads in our life. Momentum to a new place vs the comfort of habits and familiar surroundings and people. Whether it's leaving your lover, choosing a new job or place to live, we all hesitate at the crossroads, weighing which is better. To me, this piece captures this head breaking quality of life. And we never really know if we make the right choice

Rompecabeza. Finished!

Posted by Sermarr

Now all the pieces are in place and the puzzle is displayed. A real "Headbreaker" as the title translates. Now comes the hard part of tying down all the dangling pieces. Ugh

Rompecabeza. A few other details

Posted by Sermarr

Here are some other pieces of the puzzle held in place by our subjective way of seeing things. Hard to change once we pin them down in their category. These pieces are no longer full of the same charge because we've "placed" them into context and don't attend to them as much as when they were free agents and we had to figure out what they meant for us. Think of decisions about where to go to college, or which job to take These are examples of puzzle pieces like this. High voltage while underway but the valence dips once we've figured it out

Rompecabeza. The fetal figure

Posted by Sermarr

Dreaming in the corner, protected by sacred colors and strengths, the fetal figure is oblivious to all the drama going on in the collision of the pulses and momentum (the right side) and the structure and habit and norms that constrain and direct (the left side). A cocoon of all that is woven into its possible life is around it holding time still till the dreaming ends

Rompecabeza details

Posted by Sermarr

Here are some details of Rompecabeza. The central grid which anchors the piece is someplace where our desires, habits, and uncontrolled urges meet. Some bred in the bone, some driven by societal conventions, and some wild cards. And surrounded by Ickes fence images of how society tries to channel this all. I can't really tell you the exact meaning of each figure here but they are icons for the struggle to make sense of what we feel, think, and do. Our "innerscape"

Details of Rompecabeza Stitched-on pieces

Posted by Sermarr

Here are some of the stitched-on pieces. There is one of the embryo with many stitches over him. I'm not pleased with it yet but this is where it is now

Rompecabeza. Update

Posted by Sermarr

I haven't worked on Rompecabeza in a while. It's been breathing,as have I. But I began "stitching" again today. This is an overall picture and I think it's hard to see all the stitched-on things. But here it is

Rompecabeza. The back and the front

Posted by Sermarr

After stitching for most of the day I am really tired. And Rompecabeza is much more vested with iconic symbols and patterns of the overlaps in our lives. This has been really challenging to make. So I'll show you the underside and the front.

Rompecabeza is a work of many stitches

Posted by Sermarr

Today continues the myriad types of stitching and designs with 3D objects. I am so interested in what is happened as the layers continue to be needed. It seems to be about the complexity of life and the puzzle pieces we have affixed and where we put them. Here are some

Rompecabeza is getting more 3-D pieces

Posted by Sermarr

Today I started by cutting four inch dowel pieces from a long dowel I had gessoed. They had seemed like they were going to be inserted into the piece vertically like pegs but only one of those survived, so far. The others got tied down with beautiful cord and wire and a whole new "fence" piece came into being in the middle. I had already tried it on a separate table but it fit in exactly where I wanted it to. The pieces are like puzzle pieces in our life puzzle: some tied down, some floating, some in play circling around trying to fall into place
