Back to working on Octet

Posted by Sermarr

I left this piece in January. It is an attempt to capture the long useful but unsung life of my a very good older woman. She has persevered as a kindergarten teacher and community volunteer for eight decades of life. She has heart problems now and lives independently But it is clear her time here is winding down. I am trying to display time. And the various things that have happened ,good and sad, through the use of color. The spectrum ROY G BIV. And also to represent the spectrum of her life with all its highs and lows. So here is time passing. I had to tape over the existing body representations to put in time and not get paint all over them. This has happened so often that I've learned it's worth the time and the tape to not mess it up and have to fix it later!

Octet. Comment so far

The paint is drying before anything more can be done. It is interesting to me that I meant for this to be much more abstract and unstructured. But I must have been channeling my very structured, disciplined mother in law because it came out much more symmetrical than I anticipated!

Centered on the church

And her friends and many good deeds were channeled through the church. Tragedy struck her with the loss of all nine siblings And later the loss of both her sons within three months in their early forties. she said that her faith sustained her. And that she had a choice, "lay down or keep going" and she chose to keep going.

So much of my mother in law's life has been oriented and bounded by family, and it's loving and sad features. She comes from a generation that valued family members, for good or ill, above all.

Roy G Biv’s message

In trying to capture the long lived, very restrained, happy and tragic life of my mother in law,Roy g biv's message about wavelengths of energy through the spectrum of life seemed very apt

The Octet begins

This is another rompecabeza but very formally structured to begin. And now I have to begin. There is nothing more exciting than holding your breathe for the first mark. Then the other flows out in a joyous river...if it's a lucky day!?
